The cold weather and windy conditions didn't slow down the Park City High School boys' lacrosse team on Wednesday evening at Dozier Field.

Playing against a young Davis squad, the Miners scored early and often, taking a 7-1 lead after one quarter of play and extending the lead to 17-3 by the time the final whistle sounded.

Park City Coach Andy Langendorf said the wintry weather on Wednesday actually helped the Miners, as did having a week of preparation time before the game.

"We had a little bit more time to prepare," he said. "It's spring break for us this week, so we were missing some guys, but we got a good jump. We knew we were playing at home and this is our kind of weather -- cold and kind of blustery. We play well in that kind of weather."

The Miners wanted to set the tone and play a cleaner game than they did against Corner Canyon last week, and Langendorf thought they succeeded in that goal.

"We were favored to win and we came in with the idea that we were going to get our identity back and get back in a bit of a groove," he said.

Though the score was lopsided, Langendorf said that doesn't mean Park City had it easy. The Miners had to keep possession and run through their playbook to score several of their goals.

"Davis is a young team -- they have a ton of sophomores on that team," Langendorf said. "They're a scrappy bunch and they came to play. They're certainly a team that's building for the future, but, like I said a long time ago, I don't take any team lightly and I was glad we got a victory.

Freshman Beau Pederson led the way for the Miners, scoring three goals and dishing out five assists. Senior Cole Flinders also scored three goals while dishing out four assists and senior Kolton Atkinson scored three times and added one assist.

Chase Christensen, Jackson Burton and Justin Pickard all scored two goals and Ryan Smith and Trent Clifford each scored once in the win.

Langendorf said he saw a lot of good things from the attack on Wednesday evening, which bodes well for the end of the season.

"The score wasn't as important to me as just getting a little flow in our game," he said. "You get a big lead in a game and your temptation is to put in a lot of guys who don't see much field time. But you can also take advantage of it in another sense that you get guys to play together and get some rhythm.

"We're getting deeper in the season now and we have to start thinking about the playoffs and getting some rhythm in our attack. That's what we were working on today and I think the trio we have up front with Beau, Kolton and Cole is working really well together right now."

Though the Miners played a solid game Wednesday, Langendorf said there's still a lot of work to be done moving forward. Heading into a pair of games against Nevada teams this weekend at Juan Diego, the transition game needs to improve.

"We've got to clean up our clear," he said. "It's giving us fits right now. For some reason, we seem to be off-stride on that. But we have a little bit of time to work on it now. We have two big games this weekend against two good Nevada teams and that's where we're going to start working on our clear and start getting our playoff drive ready."

Park City (15-2 overall) will square off against Coronado Red and Palo Verde this weekend at Juan Diego. The next scheduled home game for the Miners will take place on April 15, when they face Pleasant Grove at 6:15 p.m. at Dozier Field.
